Outreachy is a paid, remote internship program. Internships last three months. Interns and mentors work completely remotely.
Outreachy’s goal is to improve diversity in open source. Past interns are 92% women, 64% people of color, and 12% from a historically disadvantaged caste or tribe. Interns come from around the world, with many interns located in India, Nigeria, and Uganda.
Outreachy is providing a grant to fund interns working with humanitarian open source communities. The Outreachy grant will pay for the internship stipend. This is an ideal chance to get a diverse set of people working with your humanitarian open source community.

DevConf.US is a free conference in Boston, MA on August 15-17.
It is organized by Red Hat’s Engineering and dedicated to open source technologies. The conference has the following tracks: Application Development & Containerization, Building & Running Cloud Infrastructure, Ensuring Software Quality, Machine Learning & Privacy & Big Data, Serverless, Open Source & Process, Systems Engineering & Hardware, and User Experience in Open Source.
In an effort to create a more DIVERSE and INCLUSIVE event, the conference is offering diversity scholarships that cover travel-related expenses for attendees from the U.S. or Canada who do not work at Red Hat and who are students or are relatively new or returning to full-time work in technology.
It will be an online community backed by social psychology research helping people build, make, accomplish, and change the world.
Imagine, if you will, that you want to accomplish a task or learn a new skill or make something incredible – you want to become a programmer. Get a promotion at work. Lose fifteen pounds. Design a bookstore slash cafe slash school for ants. Experiment with the internet of things.
there are some things that i would like to do just for fun or think would be or might be fun to do but haven’t really found the time or resources or motivation to follow through and do them and i’m thinking if i commit to it online with a community of other people who are committing to their own projects for the next year
and we get together once a quarter or a month or a week or something to present what we’ve done so far and what we’re going to do over the next quarter or month or week and sometimes the presentations are as simple as, i’ve done nothing, but this is why and this is how i’m going to make things happen for the next deadline which is different than what i’ve been doing because x y z or i need help with x y z problems and what are your thoughts or look how awesome i am cause i’ve finished and now i’d like to work on this new thing unless you can think of something else related to this or that or the other
